A note of appreciation and an invitation to stay involved

Thank you for attending our July 28 conference, 70th Anniversary of the Korean War Armistice: Prospects and Challenges for a Peace Agreement. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our conference partner, Partnerships for International Strategies in Asia (PISA) at George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs, and especially to PISA Director Linda Yarr, Adam Bubanich, and the rest of the GWU team.

Like many of you have expressed in emails, phone calls, and conversation, we were moved, inspired, and galvanized by our speakers, who shared their expertise and experiences regarding both the human costs of war and recommendations for reducing the risk of nuclear conflict on the Korean Peninsula. It is heartening to know that support for a U.S.-North Korea peace accord is growing across such a wide range of disciplines, from academia and nuclear science to the military and Korean American community organizations.

Ending the Korean War requires that we work together to correct the dominant U.S. narrative and challenge decades of failed U.S. policy toward North Korea. To that end, we have made a recording of the conference available on our YouTube channel and encourage you to share it with your professional and personal networks.

We have included below (after the signature) a few important messages from the conference that we hope will inspire you to join the Korea peace movement and sustain this vital work. There are many ways to plug in:

  • Join the Korea Peace Now! Grassroots Network. We meet monthly to learn and take action together.

  • Contact your local elected representative and urge them to sign onto the Peace on the Korean Peninsula Act. We encourage you to email *and* call.

  • Donate to WCDMZ: Please consider a recurring, monthly donation, which helps sustain this work over the long term by supporting visionary, long-term planning.

  • Host a screening of Crossings, which is available for free streaming until August 21, 2023. This is a fantastic organizing tool to introduce people to the issues and bring them into this work!

With gratitude,

GWU Conference Organizing Team (Christine Ahn, Linda Yarr, Cathi Choi, Echo, Austin Headrick)
