WomenPeaceKorea: A New Era
All Women Delegation to Seoul
Women Cross DMZ is heading to Seoul, South Korea May 24-26 for the #WomenPeaceKorea: A New Era delegation of thirty women peacemakers from sixteen countries to support the historic peace process unfolding in Korea.
In partnership with the Nobel Women's Initiative and the Women’s Peace Walk, a coalition of more than 30 women’s peace organizations in South Korea, our international delegation will strategize with Korean women how to ensure women's inclusion in the official peace process, convene an all-women's symposium at the Republic of Korea National Assembly, meet with key South Korean officials and the foreign diplomatic community, and walk along the DMZ calling for a Peace Treaty.
Why are we going? On April 27, South Korean President Moon Jae-In and North Korean Chairman Kim Jong-Un signed a historic agreement declaring an end to war and a new era for peace in Korea. This is an exciting moment, but also a fragile one. We cannot depend on the successful outcome of a Trump-Kim Summit to ensure the signing of a Korea Peace Treaty.
Plus, we know that the best assurance to prevent war and see through a peace agreement is to include women's peace movements in the peace process. That's why a diverse coalition of security experts and leading feminist peace activists, including Nobel Peace Laureate Mairead Maguire, are coming from around the world to influence this diplomatic window. We're sending this letter to President Trump, Chairman Kim, President Moon, and President Xi urging them to include women's peace movements at the negotiating table. Add your name by May 23!
