“An Honored Path with Peacemakers”: Maryland Constituent Myung Ja Yoon Reflects on 2025 Korea Peace Advocacy Week

Thank you to everyone who participated in 2025 Korea Peace Advocacy Week! Over 150 constituents from 29 states advocated for an end to the Korean War, holding over 70 meetings with Congressional representatives and Senators across the country. Constituents advocated for peace-focused policies and H.R.1841, the Peace on the Korean Peninsula Act. For some, this was their first time participating in Advocacy Week and meeting with their reps: including Maryland 83-year-old constituent Myung Ja Yoon who met with offices of her congressional representatives, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), and Sen. Angela Alsobrooks (D-MD-8) to share her personal story and why she advocates for peace.
“I have visited all 50 states of America and traveled to almost 100 countries, crossing many borders on foot all over the world. Yet I cannot go to North Korea because we are at war,” Myung Ja said. “I am almost 84 years old. I don’t have many more years left. I want to go and see the other half of my origin and heritage. I want to talk with the people there and share food with them. Sponsoring H.R.1841 will put you on this honored path with peacemakers.”

2025 한반도 평화 유권자 로비 주간에 참여해 주신 모든 분들께 감사드립니다! 저희는 미전국 29개 주에 걸쳐 등록한 150명의 유권자들과 상원, 하원 포함 70회 이상의 회의를 진행했으며, 각 의원실에 평화 중심 정책과 H.R.1841 – 한반도 평화 법안을 공동지지해 줄것을 요청했습니다. 올해 처음으로 유권자 로비 주간에 참여한 분들중 윤명자님은 메릴랜드 유권자로써 제이미 래스킨 하원의원, 크리스 밴 홀렌과 안젤라 올소브룩스 상원의원실과의 미팅자리에서 한국전쟁 당시 절절했던 본인의 성장기를 나눴습니다.
“저는 미국 50개 주를 모두 방문했고, 거의 100개국을 여행했으며, 전 세계 여러 국경을 걸어서 넘나들었습니다. 하지만 우리는 아직 전쟁 중이라 북한에는 갈 수 없습니다. 저는 이제 84세입니다. 앞으로 몇 년이 남지 않았습니다. 저는 제 뿌리와 유산의 나머지 반쪽을 만나러 가고 싶습니다. 그곳 사람들과 이야기를 나누고 음식을 나누고 싶습니다. H.R. 1841 (한반도 평화법안)의 공동지지는 평화를 지지하는 행동입니다.”
