“Crossings” is here!

October 18, 2021

Dear {{ FirstName | default: ‘Friend’ }},

I’m very excited to announce that Crossings — a new documentary film about our transnational feminist peace movement by Emmy-award-winning filmmaker Deann Borshay Liem — is finally here!

Crossings will premiere at the Hawai’i International Film Festival in Honolulu on Saturday, November 13 at 2pm HST at the Kahala Consolidated Theaters, followed by a Q&A with Deann, Ann Wright, and me. Due to COVID-19 safety precautions, however, capacity will be limited to 42 people. The film will screen virtually November 15-28 (for Hawai’i residents only).

Tickets for the virtual screenings will go on sale Monday, October 18! Buy them here.

We will also participate in a separate LIVE virtual discussion on November 15 at 5pm HST moderated by University of Hawai’i professor Vernadette Gonzalez as part of the Film for Thought Program co-hosted by the Hawai’i Council for the Humanities.

In 2022, we will organize nationwide screenings of Crossings. Help us bring Crossings to your community by organizing a screening in your area. If you’re interested, please email us.

Here’s the trailer and a brief synopsis of the film:

In Crossings, a group of internationally renowned women peacemakers crosses the DMZ from North to South Korea, calling for peace on the Korean peninsula. The film follows key women leaders, including Gloria Steinem and Nobel Peace Laureates Leymah Gbowee and Mairead Maguire, on this historic journey. Through their story, Crossings explores enduring questions about war’s legacies and the role women play in resolving the world’s most intractable conflicts.

Special thanks to our co-sponsors and community supporters of the Nov. 13 screening and Nov. 15 virtual discussion:

  • Hawai’i Council for the Humanities
  • Center for Korean Studies, University of Hawaii
  • Matsunaga Institute
  • Women’s Voices, Women’s Speak
  • Hawai’i Peace and Justice
  • Vets for Peace Hawai’i Chapter
  • Women Cross DMZ/Korea Peace Now!

We look forward to “seeing” you and bringing Crossings to your community!

In peace,

Christine Ahn
